What’s your opinion on Harry Potter as a Christian?
I am a Christian and I am ready to admit that I love Harry Potter. It is my favourite book(s) and I can’t go one day without thinking of something Harry Potter. I know there is a lot of controversy about being a Christian and reading/watching Harry Potter, but really, I don’t see what the point is. It’s a fictional book and it doesn’t, in any way, shape or form promote witchcraft or magic. It’s a book based on good vs evil and so many people can relate to the things Harry and his friends go through. If people would read the books, they would see that it’s not all bad. There may be some lying and stealing and the like, but honestly, who hasn’t ever lied or stolen something? Everyone on this earth has faults, and those are two similar ones. So please, I would love to read your opinions.
The novel does contain religious themes that have constantly been present throughout the series, yet JKR was not going to reveal them until the last book.
The last installment of the series is about resurrection and life after death.
In “Deathly Hallows,” Harry visits his parents’ graves at Godric’s Hollow and sees two biblical references on his parents’ tombstones, reading: “The last enemy that shall be destroyed is death,” and “Where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.” The first refers to 1 Corinthians 15:26 and the second is a quote from Jesus in Matthew 6:19.
By the end of the book, Harry is like the “master of death” because he resurrects the spirits of his parents, his godfather, Sirius Black and his old teacher Remus Lupin.
Harry Potter is very British so on a very practical note Harry was going to find biblical quotations on tombstones. I think those two particular quotations he finds on the tombstones at Godric’s Hollow almost epitomize the whole series
The book also begins with two religiously-themed epigraphs – one Christian, the other pagan.
So, in a sense Harry Potter does contain some Christian motifs blah blah. But sht happens, aye
My best friend is a Christian and she loves Harry Potter.
For most adults, fairy tales are among the childish things we’ve put away. Alice Hoffman, however, feels differently. Practical Magic starts out as a tale of Gillian and Sally Owens, two orphaned girls whose aunts are witches–of a mild sort. For the past two centuries, Owens women have been blamed for all that has gone wrong in their Massachusetts town, ever since their ancestor arrived, ri…
You don’t fool with Mother Nature, spit into the wind, remake Casablanca, or trash the land of Oz. Perhaps that is why the 1985 live-action sequel split critics and audiences alike. The 1939 classic musical is so beloved that it’s almost impossible to imagine seeing Dorothy in shock therapy, a crumbled yellow brick road, the ruins of Emerald City, and the Tin Man turned into stone. But L. Frank Ba…
